Turn intent into checkable behaviour
A vague requirement is difficult to test and easy to interpret differently. Define the rule, the valid outcome and the important failure behaviour together. This gives engineering, QA and the customer a shared definition of what should be true.
Layer confidence deliberately
Useful testing combines small fast checks, service-level checks and realistic end-to-end journeys. Each layer answers a different question. The goal is not maximum test count; it is confidence around the behaviour that could damage a user or business.
Use defects as design evidence
A recurring defect often points to a missing boundary, unclear requirement or weak observation. Fix the immediate issue, then ask what in the system allowed it to escape. That turns quality work into lasting product learning.
