Back to field notes

A useful knowledge assistant needs governance before fluency.

A polished answer is risky when it cannot show where it came from or whether the information is current.

Original perspective · editorial review required before production publication

01

Curate the source boundary

Decide which documents are approved, who owns them and how changes reach the retrieval system. A broad folder is not a knowledge policy. Sensitive, expired or contradictory material should not become quietly available because it was easy to ingest.

02

Give people a path to verify

Where useful, surface the source and the limits of the answer. People can then judge whether to act, ask a specialist or submit a correction. This is more valuable than presenting uncertain language as confidence.

03

Evaluate the live task

Test genuine questions, ambiguous language, missing context and permission boundaries. Watch for outdated answers after source changes. The system should become better through reviewed feedback, not by silently accumulating untrusted material.
